Bibliography:

“The Benefits of Nursery Rhymes for Children.” Cognitive Development Learning Centre, 20 Nov. 2019, cognitive.com.sg/the-benefits-of-nursery-rhymes-for-children/.

I used this source to get an understanding of how the usage of nursery rhymes can help promote cognitive development in the youngest of children. Their information was helpful in getting a basic understanding of the effects of parents teaching children nursery rhymes.

“The Importance of Music and Movement - NIU - Child Development and Family Center.” Northern Illinois University, www.chhs.niu.edu/child-center/resources/articles/music-and-movement.shtml.

This source provided me with an understanding not just of how music and movement such as dance can help benefit children but also why it helps. They gave me ideas on how to explain it so that I could easily translate the somewhat complex ideas in psychological development into easy to understand chunks.

“Playing Make-Believe Prepares Kids for the Real World.” American Psychological Association, American Psychological Association, www.apa.org/research/action/play.

The APA gave me a general idea of where to start with this project and how to approach the topic. The website gave a basic understanding of how imaginary play can help children develop further. This source was incredibly helpful to get an initial understanding of the topic and where I could take it.

Tracy Gleason Professor of Psychology. “Why Make-Believe Play Is an Important Part of

Childhood Development.” The Conversation, 15 Apr. 2020, theconversation.com/why-make-believe-play-is-an-important-part-of-childhood-development-49693.

I used this source for a quote in my presentation and to learn that make believe play gives them the opportunity to not just be themselves but be another person. They have to intake all the information coming at them during the play but also be the opposite person when they react.

“The Very Real Benefits of Reading Bedtime Stories.” SCL Health,

www.sclhealth.org/blog/2019/03/the-very-real-benefits-of-reading-bedtime-stories/.

SCL Health was increasingly helpful by giving an in-depth explanation as to how bedtime stories can promote cognitive development. There were helpful quotes and more that gave me a chance to add their information into my slides and into my verbal portions of the lecture.
